Vintage Market and 1940s Weekend Bring Buzz to Melton Mowbray

Melton Mowbray was transported back in time on the weekend of 10th and 11th May as the town celebrated the ever-popular 1940s Melton Mowbray Weekend, with this year’s event bigger and better than ever, thanks to the addition of the Melton Mowbray Vintage Market, hosted by the Melton Mowbray Town Estate.
Thousands enjoyed a nostalgic mix of live entertainment, re-enactments, fashion shows, and vintage vehicles across the town and Play Close. The Town Estate’s specially curated Vintage Market brought in period traders from across the region, offering memorabilia, collectables, vintage fashion and more, adding to the immersive feel of the weekend.
This year’s event also marked the successful public opening of the Pavilion in the Park, now serving refreshments to visitors in New Park.
Visitor Highlights:
- 7.3% increase in overall footfall compared to last year’s event.
- 25% of visitors were new to the town.
- Saturday footfall up 21%, Sunday up 24% compared to typical non-event days.
Dean Rees, CEO of Melton Mowbray Town Estate, shared his thoughts:
“We’re absolutely thrilled with the turnout and the fantastic atmosphere throughout the weekend. The Melton Mowbray Vintage Market added a real buzz to the town centre and complemented the 1940s festivities perfectly. Most importantly, it was a true community effort – a shining example of what can be achieved when local organisations work together.”
We’d like to thank the organisers of the 1940s weekend and everyone who helped bring this unforgettable weekend to life, including volunteers, traders and visitors. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!
