⚠️ Saturday Market Cancelled – Saturday 24th October ⚠️

We’re sorry to let you know that this Saturday’s market in Market Place will not go ahead.

Storm Boelo is forecast to cross the UK this weekend, bringing strong southerly winds to Melton Mowbray with gusts of up to 45mph, and heavy rain from around 1 pm through the afternoon and evening.

Why we’ve made this call

It might look calm and dry first thing on Saturday morning, but the forecast shows the wind strengthening as the day goes on. Gusts are what make it dangerous. Gazebos, stalls, display stands and stock can be lifted without warning, and a gazebo caught by a gust of that strength becomes a serious hazard to anyone nearby, including shoppers, children and traders.

We also have to think about our traders. Many travel early, set up in the dark and put their stock and equipment on the line. Cancelling now, rather than in the morning, means nobody wastes a journey or risks damage to their goods and livelihood.

This decision is never taken lightly. Our traders rely on the market and so do we. But if the choice is between a quiet Saturday and someone getting hurt, safety comes first.

Paid online?

Any charge you’ve already paid will be carried over automatically to our next market day. There’s nothing you need to do.

We’ll be back next Saturday, weather permitting. Please support our traders then and keep an eye on this page for updates.
